Paulaner Bauhaus — Singapore, Millenia Walk

Paulaner Bauhaus — Singapore, Millenia Walk

Singapore’s first and only German microbrewery Paulaner Brauhaus had recently undergone a revamp to present a fresh new outlook on their Asia’s flagship store located in Millenia Walk. The restaurant takes up three storeys with outdoor seating available on the first floor. The spacious interior makes it a good place for gatherings — the high ceiling on the second and third storey exudes a grand atmosphere will be suitable for holding events too. You will also find Paulaner’s signature large bronze boiler that transports the beer from the microbrewery into our glasses!
The permanent selection of beer on tap at Paulaner Brauhaus are the Pale Lager, Dark Lager and Weissbier Wheat Beer. I had the Pale Lager ($13.30 for 300ml, $16.10 for 500ml, $30 for 1L) and it was definitely an easy drink for the ladies while indulging in a German feast!

PRETZEL TREE
$13.90

OBAZADA WITH PRETZEL
$16.90

PAULANER TRIO FISH
$15.90

We started off our night with some freshly baked pretzels, served on a “tree”! While I didn’t expect too much from just pretzels and the fact that they might take up too much stomach space as our first dish, I was blown away upon my first mouthful. The pretzel came in a perfect golden brown hue. The slightly crispy crust was extremely fragrant and was a delight to continue munching on them. You can choose to have it with the my favorite obazda — a Bavarian cheese spread made with camembert and fresh butter. Otherwise, you can get the Paulaner Trio Fish with homemade smoked salmon with cream cheese, herring salad with cream cheese and sour cream, and red radish salad with smoked trout fillet.

PORK KNUCKLE
$31.90

PORK SCHNITZEL
$25.90

No other food spells more German than the pork knuckle, that is perfect with a pint of beer. I’ve never really fancied pork knuckles as the ones I’ve met so far have rather tough skin but this one at Paulaner changed my impression entirely. The whole bone-in pork knuckle is first marinated in a Bavarian spice blend, brushed with Paulaner beer then oven-roasted for 2.5 hours to achieve the tender meat and superbly crispy crackling skin. Those crackling skin are to die for! I even had a second serving of it. Not to forget, the meat on the inside was plentiful and tender. I thought it went very well with the house-made sauerkraut on the side which helped to cut down on the heavier tasting meat. A semmelknodel, a traditional bread dumpling, which unfortunately wasn’t to my liking as the texture was too sticky.

CURRYWURST “HOT PAULA”
$12.90

We also tried the currywurst made of a smoked pork sausage with a curry tomato sauce over a bed of french fries. The sauce was pretty addictive with the super fat and juicy sausage. It’s nothing extraordinary but a familiar taste that I was very comfortable savouring on.

APPLE BEIGNETS
$14.90

KAISERSCHMARRN
$14.90

Out of the two desserts that we had, I preferred the apple beignets over the pancakes. The juicy and crunchy apple rings are coated with a thin layer of batter before being fried to a golden brown and dusted with sugar and cinnamon. The traditional pairing with a scoop of vanilla ice cream is easily a crowd favorite! On the other hand, the Kaiserschmarrn is made of thick pancakes with red berry compote, apple compote and vanilla ice cream. Fans of pancakes might probably love this too!
